The Mermaid in the Desert, Lady Blue reclines in a pond teeming with wildflowers and magical beings.

Created over the course of nearly a year while working live at her Gallery on the Santa Fe Plaza, freezing throngs of unsuspecting tourists in their tracks, Lady Blue evolved through thousands of hand-drawn lines, layered airbrush techniques, ink detailing, and gold leaf applications. Rather than following a predetermined design, the composition emerged intuitively, allowing the imagery to reveal itself over time. The finished work stands as one of the most ambitious pieces in Shannon Castle’s Goddess series.
