Even the blueprints had to be drawn by hand, to scale, in order to begin to execute this design.

Glass-terpiece

It's a lucky few that travel the long winding road of life and through dedication and a little luck are able to find their God-given talent.  And it's even fewer folks that can combine that talent with a passion that runs as deep as what bikers have instilled in them from birth.

Shannon Connor Castle is one of those rare few.  The alluring Shannon tells us she's had a soft spot in her heart for the rumble of straight pipes, stirring a feeling in her soul that wouldn't let go.

Shannon was drawn to working with thick panels of glass, blasting beautiful designs in the smooth surface.  In 1981 she began teaching herself the rare craft of glass carving, and she set her sights on creating a next-level approach to her chosen medium.  She had ideas all her own on how to combine her deep-rooted passion for classic motorcycles with her drive to create unique glass art.  This was no easy task since glass obviously is challenging at best to work with and Shannon would never be happy merely replicating someone else's techniques.

Shannon chose a 1958 Harley panhead as her first subject,  drawing all the blueprints by hand while sitting on the floors of a dozen willing collectors' garages.  These drawings are a work of art in their own right, but Shannon Castle continued to delve deeper and deeper, eventually developing a technique whereby her three dimensional sculpture appears like a floating ghost ride, entombed inside a giant block of glass.

It's a good thing she's friendly with big, burly biker types since the glass block - without the base - weighs in at nearly 2,000 pounds!
Her glass motorcycle is so unique and revolutionary that this new art form she created is currently being reviewed by the U.S. Patent Office.
