Butterfly (Original Mixed Media on Reflective Glass Panel) 35 3/4” x 64”
Butterfly explores transformation, self-discovery, and the invisible connections that shape our lives. At the center of the composition, a uniquely Asian feminine figure emerges from a cathedral-like archway of flowing gold lines and luminous color. She stands as a symbol of inner strength and grace, surrounded by a dynamic network of intersecting pathways that suggest life’s unfolding journey.
Suspended across the surface, dimensional gold fish drift through the composition like messengers of change. Their presence softens the geometry and introduces a sense of movement, renewal, and spiritual awakening. Rich cobalt blues, emerald greens, vibrant reds, and metallic gold create a visual rhythm that shifts with changing light, while the reflective glass surface draws the viewer into the artwork itself, becoming part of the experience.
Combining elements of Art Deco elegance, contemporary abstraction, and Shannon Castle’s signature feminine imagery, Butterfly bridges the worlds of symbolism and design. The work invites contemplation while maintaining a strong architectural presence, making it equally compelling as a fine art statement piece or a centerpiece within a sophisticated interior.
Technical Process
Created on a reflective glass panel, Butterfly combines hand-drawn geometric line work, layered acrylic applications, metallic pigments, and dimensional sculptural elements finished with gold leaf. The composition evolved through a combination of structured design and spontaneous freehand development, a process that allows unexpected relationships and visual discoveries to emerge during creation. Raised fish and butterfly forms and floating gold elements project from the surface, creating physical depth and shifting shadows that change throughout the day. Multiple transparent and opaque layers interact with the reflective glass substrate, producing a luminous quality that cannot be achieved on canvas. Every line, color field, and dimensional element was individually executed by hand, making this a unique original work with no duplicates.
