Ibiza is a monumental mixed-media assemblage inspired by the mystery, beauty, and transformative power of the sea. Originating from an original hand-carved glass artwork, the piece embodies Shannon Connor Castle’s signature fusion of sculpture, drawing, and glass artistry.
The central image was first created through the artist’s meticulous glass-carving process, where layers of detail were sandblasted and refined to achieve extraordinary depth and intricacy. Following completion of the original glass work, the image was preserved through advanced high-resolution scanning and reproduced as a fine art archival print.
A second carved glass layer was then introduced, creating dimensional depth and visual movement throughout the composition. Sculpted marine-inspired elements, flowing forms, and luminous textures interact with the underlying imagery, producing a captivating interplay of light, shadow, and reflection. The artwork is presented within a custom architectural frame system utilizing stand-offs and layered materials that emphasize its sculptural presence.
The figure herself emerges as a mythic sea goddess—both powerful and serene—surrounded by intricate organic forms reminiscent of coral, shells, currents, and ancient oceanic symbols. As light shifts throughout the day, new details reveal themselves, transforming the viewing experience and inviting prolonged contemplation.
